Media statement: IED device discovered at Jewish Community Centre in Cape Town.

At approximately 10:30am on Friday 06th December 2024, an improvised explosive device (IED), which had been thrown into the property and failed to detonate, was discovered at the Jewish Community Offices in Gardens. Law enforcement authorities were immediately notified and are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.

The Cape South African Jewish Board of Deputies is working together with all sectors of the security cluster to secure the safety of the Jewish community in Cape Town.

The Jewish Sabbath begins at 6:30pm and we will be uncontactable until 8:30pm on Saturday evening.
