Remembering our heritage in Ceres

Yesterday, over 50 people gathered to commemorate the laying of the foundation stone of the first Ceres shul , precisely 100 years ago on 21 November 1923. Former members of the Ceres Wolseley Hebrew Congregation as well as 18 Friends of the Ceres Museum (who had travelled to Cape Town for the day) were taken on a tour of the Gardens Shul and the South African Jewish Museum by Rabbi Feldman and Gavin Morris respectively, followed by lunch at Cafe Riteve.

The Cape SAJBD is proud to support this important initiative in remembering our heritage. The role the Ceres community played in building and shaping the greater South African community, cannot be forgotten.
